Are You Living To Your Potential?

July 27th, 2009

Everybody is where they are at right now because of the the years, days, hours and minutes that have past and the decisions they made in that present time.  So the real question is where are you going?  Are you making decisions to help you live to your potential or are you spending all your time making sure you will keep the status quo?

There is nothing wrong with the status quo as long as you have the life of your dreams and you are living to your potential.  Why sell yourself short?  You are here for a reason and that purpose not only affects you but all the people around you.

So what is stopping you from changing and improving your current reality.  When it comes to health, do you spend time with it daily to insure good decisions are being made?  Remember you are where you are at today because of the choices you have made up to this point.  If you don’t like where your health is at, what should be your first step?

First, can you see yourself differently than your current status?  So many people can’t change aspects in their life because they have no ability to see anything different than their current reality.  You say to yourself, I am this person with this condition and I foresee myself dealing with this forever.  Kind of sounds like what people deal with everyday when they go into the medical model insearch of that diagnosis to explain their current condition.  Once they get the diagnosis, now they have answers and then are told to take medications to control the symptoms forever.  Hard to see things differently when you are not given hope for a better future.

If our thoughts and actions in the past have led us to our current state, does it make sense then that our present thoughts will determine our future?  So, When would it be a good time to start to see your health and life differently unless it is “perfect” now?  The time is now!  Spend some time today seeing yourself healthy, happy, full of energy and doing the things you love to do.  How different does that look than your current reality?

I have a patient that for so many years  has taken Rx medications along with the ironically less dangerous illegal drugs for so long he was afraid of what life would be like without them.  He could not see himself with out them, they were just a part of him.  When he came into our office and starting getting care, his results were slow to progress.  I sat with him one visit and asked him what tomorrow looked like for him.  He said it looked like today.  He explained his daily routine and then told me it had been that way for years.  So I asked him if he thought he could heal and get better?  He said “sure”.  So I asked him if tomorrow looks like today, how is that going to ever change?  He said, “I don’t know but I want it to change.”  I asked him if he expected it to change?  He said, “I guess not if tomorrow looks like today!”  Wow what a powerful thing for him to say.  Since that conversation he has transformed his life and is dramatically healthier today than he has been in 25 years.

Now most of you probably are not in this same exact situation, but minus the illegal drug use  unfortunately it describes the masses in our country.  People suffering needlessly, stuck in their current situation and wanting something different but not expecting it.  Are you living to your potential?  For 99% of the people in the US the answer is probably NO.

What do you need to suceed?  One thing is hope that you can change and improve.  In our office we get to see that happen everyday.  Next you need the ability to see yourself differently.  See you, the new you with health, vitality and energy you haven’t had since you were a kid.  Third you need a plan and a support network that is going to show you the possibilities and help you make them your new reality.   Lastly you need people in your life that have either been there themselves and/or has helped thousands of people just like you make that change.

Our office offers all these things to every patient that comes into our office.  My vision is that everyone plugs into our office and really lets their potential out!  We have got two life changing events coming up over the next couple of weeks.  The first is our movie night fetauring the film Generation Rx on August 7th from 6:15-8:15pm.  Then our next Maximized Living Makeover is also just around the corner and already filling up with people ready to change their current health state forever.  SAVE THE DATE:  August 15th from 1:30-4:30.  Call the office @ 720-747-5333 for more infomation and to register for both events.

Where is your health at?

July 15th, 2009

Where is your health at currently? If it is not where you want it to be, why? What things in your life are preventing you from regaining health? What is the “CAUSE” of your current situation?

Today we are going to help you learn about your body, how it functions, why and when symptoms appear and finally what is the best way to find out how your body is functioning and healing currently.

Most people admit that our bodies have an innate or inborn healing mechanism inside of it. If you get a scrape on your leg, your body knows what to do to heal it. From a simple scrape to heart disease or cancer, the body knows what to do to heal it. Thousands of times a day your body make changes, fixes problems, destroys cancer cells and heals your injuries.

Now lets talk about our healing system and symptoms. First thing, symptoms are a sign something is wrong in your body and is actually your body performing just the way it is supposed to. So many people view symptoms negatively, although I realize why, they know that it is a sign something is wrong, but the body is acting appropriately to try to fix the problem. We are obsessed in this country with getting rid of symptoms which often times either inhibits our bodies natural healing process and/or makes the problem worse due to side-effects….ie: Tylenol.

Where does all healing come from? You guessed it, your brain and spinal cord. Is it important to eat right, exercise, decrease stress in your life and limit toxic exposure? Of course it is, how ever if you severely damage your spinal chord, does it really matter what you eat? So lets talk about health and finish this conversation on symptoms.

When your are living by the 5 Essentials of Maximized Living: Detoxing the body, restoring proper nervous system function, eating right, exercising (12 minutes/week) and finally maximizing your mind with cutting edge techniques for stress reduction and time management, you are doing everything possible to have our body function at 100%

The life/health cycle of the average American

100%: Living the 5 Essentials.

90%: Body beginning to get unplugged from its life source.

80%: Disease Process is happening.

70%: Breakdown of cells, tissue, organs and organ systems.

60%: Your first symptoms start to show up and most medical

tests will finally start to show positive results. Some

people take action at this point while others will wait to see

if it goes away or they will self treat with over the counter

medications.

50%: Diagnosis occurs from the medical perspective. Treatment of

symptoms begins.

40%: Although symptoms may be getting better, the disease process

continues lowering your health level.

30%: Your treatment side-effects are harming and destroying other cells,

organs and organ systems.

20%: You get checked into the hospital for advanced life saving treatment

or surgery.

10%: Your admitted to a nursing home or some full time care facility.

0%: Is death.

As somber as this graph is, realize that you have a choice at what level you are living. The way we view health in this country is a major contributor to the declining health we see today. We are taught to wait for symptoms to show up and then seek help for the treatment of our symptoms. Even if the treatment “works” and our symptoms decline that has not stopped the disease process from progressing. For example, if you have high blood pressure that is often a sign of cardiovascular disease developing. If you take a medication that lowers your blood pressure artificially the symptom is taken care of but did it “cure” your disease or the cause of that symptom? The answer is no. That’s why heart disease is still the number 1 cause death by a disease in our country. It’s not because we don’t medicate ourselves as in the US we consume 70% of the worlds drugs and yet rank last in most health related categories.

At some point we need to take control of our health and realize the decision you make on a daily basis will determine your future in health and all aspect of your life. The only way to know how your body is functioning and healing is know how your nervous system is functioning. The best way to determine that is by having a computerized nervous system scan along with an x-ray to look at spine structure.

Finding The Solution To Your Health Problem

June 17th, 2009

So many people spend great amounts of time and money dealing with their current health problems.  They do so with little to NO results.  I had a conversation with a colleague this weekend while learning some new cutting edge techniques to further identify the cause of problems for my patients.  This doctor was 70 years old and by the looked and acted like he was maybe 60.  He told me he traveled to this seminar for the primary reason of getting to the bottom of his shoulder problem.  Our instructor is quite possibly the best extremity doctor in the world.  He told me he had not been able to run, play handball or golf they way he likes to for about 8 months.  The pain was even starting to effect how he adjusted his patients.

When I asked him what types of things he had been doing for it, he said he had been stretching and doing rehab techniques but was not having any success.  He decided it was time to solve his problem by truley identifying the problem and finding a solution.  When he was evaluated by the instructor he told him the problem was not in the true shoulder joint but in the scapulae(the shoulder blade).  He evaluated him, did one adjustment and the mechanics of the shoulder were restored.  He could lift his arm over his head and do so with no pain.  8 months of rehab on the shoulder and even adjusting the shoulder with little to no results, then one adjustment to the proper subluxation and we saw restored normal function to the joint.

This was an example of a pain issue that was being misdiagnosed.  Just like most pain and health conditions, people treat the symptoms with a multitude different modalities with no long term results.  Why, because they have not identified the true cause of the problem and therefore have not found a solution to the problem.  If you take blood pressure medication to control your blood pressure, is that fixing your problem?  High blood pressure which can be a sign of heart or other cardiovascular disease is a symptom of a bigger problem.  When you take the medication if things “work” the pressure will drop.  The thing people seem to not understand is that the disease process that was causing the issue continues to progress.  Your cardiovascular disease is getting worse you just are unaware of the symptoms now.

This is true with any medication you are taking.  If you don’t believe me answer this question.  Can you name a drug that is designed to “CURE” your problems?  I will give you partial credit if you say antibiotics but that is still not fully true.  Antibiotics assist the body by weakening the bacteria.  So if none of the drugs cure your problems, that means the disease progresses.  So not only do medications not “fix” any problems, I ask you if you have ever found a drug that doesn’t have a “side effect” or cause additional problems?  The answer is NO!

Just like the shoulder guy above, taking medications to regulate body function is like rehabing and treating the wrong joint for 8 months and wondering why things are not getting better.  You have to find a solution to your problem.  People everyday come into my office complaining of neck or back pain and after starting care with us tell us their heartburn goes away,  menstrual problems are gone, headaches are a thing of the past, fibromyalgia is gone, diabetes is better or depression is better.  By no means is this short list at all inclusive of the number of problems resolved by the body in our office once we identify the cause.

The foundation and principal of chiropractic states that there power that created you from two cells to 2 trillion cells is the same power that maintains you in existence.  That healing power needs no help just no interference.  When you have a subluxation or misaligned vertebrae, this compresses the spinal cord and inteferes with God’s healing power.  An adjustment to remove that interference is the most powerful thing I know.  Releasing that compression and allowing the body to heal and function at 100%, can there be something more powerful?

If you are tired of suffering, not living up to your potential and know there is more to life than taking a bunch of toxic medication just so you can function in your daily life.  If this is you or someone you know we have your answer.  On Saturday the 20th of June from 8-11 am we are holding our father’s day patient appreciation day.  People that are referred into our office on that day will receive their first 3 days in our office for free.  The will get a complete examination on day one, and adjustment on day 2 and a full reports of findings on day 3.  At the end of those 3 days you will know what the cause of your problem is and what your solution is as well.  Look forward to seeing you then.

What does it take to regain and maintain health?

June 2nd, 2009

I recently had two conversations about regaining and  then maintaining health into the future.  The first was a person not yet a patient of ours that has been suffering needlessly over the past 10-15 years with multiple “medical conditions”.  The second was a retired couple that is beginning their 3rd year of care under the Maximized Living Model.  The biggest difference between the conversations was the confidence and certainty  the retired couple had that they were doing the right thing and feeling better as they are getting older.

The first conversation was with a middle aged female that we will call Sue.  Sue had been battling with multiple problems since she was a teenager.  The number of problems and their severity have increasing over the past 15 or so years.  When I asked her was she was currently doing to help herself, she told me she was seeing 5 specialists currently and taking 14 Rx medications.  One specialist was for her female disorders that included endometriosis, PMS and multiple difficulties with pregnancies.  This doctor had her on 3 medications to help her regulate her cycle and decrease symptoms.  She was also seeing a pain specialist for what she states is an ever changing diagnosis.  She was told she had fibromyalgia, then MS and now chronic fatigue complicated with fibromyalgia.  She had received multiple pain injections over the past few years along with multiple daily medications to help her deal with pain and fatigue.  All of these medications and specialists and still no answers.  She stated a few years ago she was sent to a mental health specialist for evaluation because  a few of her doctors were starting to wonder if the “pain was in her head”.  She was evaluated and told she was moderately depressed and given Paxil for treatment.  After about 2 months she reports having a follow-up appointment where she was told her depression was not responding to treatment so they added a second medication.  About 1 month later she reports she was under a lot of stress and she had an manic episode and felt tremendous anger towards a co-worker that she remembers got her in trouble with her boss.  So the next visit to her doctor included the addition of bipolar drug.  She told me she felt her life was totally out of control at this point.  She felt mentally unstable, had thoughts of suicide and still had the pain she was originally being treated for.   Suewas  feeling lost and hopeless.  She has not been given any reason to feel differently.  When your only option is more medication and that already hasn’t been working, where is the hope in that?  I hope and pray that she will come into our office to find out what we could do to help her.

On the other hand, my retired couple met with me to discuss recommendations for continuing care in our office.  First I want to say what a delight it is to have these people as part of our chiropractic family.  We started our conversation with me asking them how things have been going.  A question you would not typically want to ask a couple in their early 70’s, unless you had lots of time and wanted to here how terrible things are going.  To my delight the conversation started with how they used to have some pains and problems that limited them in numerous way.  Now these problems are a thing of the past.  They are more active than they were 5 years ago, have less health issues holding them back from truly enjoying life.  The have done a good job of plugging into the 5 essentials of Maximized Living we teach in our office.  Admittedly they told me they can do better than they are but are already getting great results.

So which life do you want?  The much younger lady has lost hope, deals with daily pain and has been told things such as “its in your your head” to “you will just have to learn to live with it.”  Nobody has to learn to live with it.  That would be one of the worst things someone could say.  You always have a choice to do something different.  You need to realize that when you empower yourself and take control of your health, things change.  You are the one that is responsible, not your doctor.  Doctor means teacher, to help teach people what they need to do to be healthy.  I take that definition literally.  I want to teach and lead each of my patients to better health through Maximized Living.

The choice is yours!  We are waiting with open arms to show people a better way.  The questions is, are you ready to make a commitment to your health and improve your life?

Be well,

Dr. Tim
