Are You Living To Your Potential?

July 27th, 2009

Everybody is where they are at right now because of the the years, days, hours and minutes that have past and the decisions they made in that present time.  So the real question is where are you going?  Are you making decisions to help you live to your potential or are you spending all your time making sure you will keep the status quo?

There is nothing wrong with the status quo as long as you have the life of your dreams and you are living to your potential.  Why sell yourself short?  You are here for a reason and that purpose not only affects you but all the people around you.

So what is stopping you from changing and improving your current reality.  When it comes to health, do you spend time with it daily to insure good decisions are being made?  Remember you are where you are at today because of the choices you have made up to this point.  If you don’t like where your health is at, what should be your first step?

First, can you see yourself differently than your current status?  So many people can’t change aspects in their life because they have no ability to see anything different than their current reality.  You say to yourself, I am this person with this condition and I foresee myself dealing with this forever.  Kind of sounds like what people deal with everyday when they go into the medical model insearch of that diagnosis to explain their current condition.  Once they get the diagnosis, now they have answers and then are told to take medications to control the symptoms forever.  Hard to see things differently when you are not given hope for a better future.

If our thoughts and actions in the past have led us to our current state, does it make sense then that our present thoughts will determine our future?  So, When would it be a good time to start to see your health and life differently unless it is “perfect” now?  The time is now!  Spend some time today seeing yourself healthy, happy, full of energy and doing the things you love to do.  How different does that look than your current reality?

I have a patient that for so many years  has taken Rx medications along with the ironically less dangerous illegal drugs for so long he was afraid of what life would be like without them.  He could not see himself with out them, they were just a part of him.  When he came into our office and starting getting care, his results were slow to progress.  I sat with him one visit and asked him what tomorrow looked like for him.  He said it looked like today.  He explained his daily routine and then told me it had been that way for years.  So I asked him if he thought he could heal and get better?  He said “sure”.  So I asked him if tomorrow looks like today, how is that going to ever change?  He said, “I don’t know but I want it to change.”  I asked him if he expected it to change?  He said, “I guess not if tomorrow looks like today!”  Wow what a powerful thing for him to say.  Since that conversation he has transformed his life and is dramatically healthier today than he has been in 25 years.

Now most of you probably are not in this same exact situation, but minus the illegal drug use  unfortunately it describes the masses in our country.  People suffering needlessly, stuck in their current situation and wanting something different but not expecting it.  Are you living to your potential?  For 99% of the people in the US the answer is probably NO.

What do you need to suceed?  One thing is hope that you can change and improve.  In our office we get to see that happen everyday.  Next you need the ability to see yourself differently.  See you, the new you with health, vitality and energy you haven’t had since you were a kid.  Third you need a plan and a support network that is going to show you the possibilities and help you make them your new reality.   Lastly you need people in your life that have either been there themselves and/or has helped thousands of people just like you make that change.

Our office offers all these things to every patient that comes into our office.  My vision is that everyone plugs into our office and really lets their potential out!  We have got two life changing events coming up over the next couple of weeks.  The first is our movie night fetauring the film Generation Rx on August 7th from 6:15-8:15pm.  Then our next Maximized Living Makeover is also just around the corner and already filling up with people ready to change their current health state forever.  SAVE THE DATE:  August 15th from 1:30-4:30.  Call the office @ 720-747-5333 for more infomation and to register for both events.

Where is your health at?

July 15th, 2009

Where is your health at currently? If it is not where you want it to be, why? What things in your life are preventing you from regaining health? What is the “CAUSE” of your current situation?

Today we are going to help you learn about your body, how it functions, why and when symptoms appear and finally what is the best way to find out how your body is functioning and healing currently.

Most people admit that our bodies have an innate or inborn healing mechanism inside of it. If you get a scrape on your leg, your body knows what to do to heal it. From a simple scrape to heart disease or cancer, the body knows what to do to heal it. Thousands of times a day your body make changes, fixes problems, destroys cancer cells and heals your injuries.

Now lets talk about our healing system and symptoms. First thing, symptoms are a sign something is wrong in your body and is actually your body performing just the way it is supposed to. So many people view symptoms negatively, although I realize why, they know that it is a sign something is wrong, but the body is acting appropriately to try to fix the problem. We are obsessed in this country with getting rid of symptoms which often times either inhibits our bodies natural healing process and/or makes the problem worse due to side-effects….ie: Tylenol.

Where does all healing come from? You guessed it, your brain and spinal cord. Is it important to eat right, exercise, decrease stress in your life and limit toxic exposure? Of course it is, how ever if you severely damage your spinal chord, does it really matter what you eat? So lets talk about health and finish this conversation on symptoms.

When your are living by the 5 Essentials of Maximized Living: Detoxing the body, restoring proper nervous system function, eating right, exercising (12 minutes/week) and finally maximizing your mind with cutting edge techniques for stress reduction and time management, you are doing everything possible to have our body function at 100%

The life/health cycle of the average American

100%: Living the 5 Essentials.

90%: Body beginning to get unplugged from its life source.

80%: Disease Process is happening.

70%: Breakdown of cells, tissue, organs and organ systems.

60%: Your first symptoms start to show up and most medical

tests will finally start to show positive results. Some

people take action at this point while others will wait to see

if it goes away or they will self treat with over the counter

medications.

50%: Diagnosis occurs from the medical perspective. Treatment of

symptoms begins.

40%: Although symptoms may be getting better, the disease process

continues lowering your health level.

30%: Your treatment side-effects are harming and destroying other cells,

organs and organ systems.

20%: You get checked into the hospital for advanced life saving treatment

or surgery.

10%: Your admitted to a nursing home or some full time care facility.

0%: Is death.

As somber as this graph is, realize that you have a choice at what level you are living. The way we view health in this country is a major contributor to the declining health we see today. We are taught to wait for symptoms to show up and then seek help for the treatment of our symptoms. Even if the treatment “works” and our symptoms decline that has not stopped the disease process from progressing. For example, if you have high blood pressure that is often a sign of cardiovascular disease developing. If you take a medication that lowers your blood pressure artificially the symptom is taken care of but did it “cure” your disease or the cause of that symptom? The answer is no. That’s why heart disease is still the number 1 cause death by a disease in our country. It’s not because we don’t medicate ourselves as in the US we consume 70% of the worlds drugs and yet rank last in most health related categories.

At some point we need to take control of our health and realize the decision you make on a daily basis will determine your future in health and all aspect of your life. The only way to know how your body is functioning and healing is know how your nervous system is functioning. The best way to determine that is by having a computerized nervous system scan along with an x-ray to look at spine structure.

Would you vote for socialized medicine?

June 11th, 2009

A question that should be on the minds of Americans.  As the President and our law makers discuss the future of healthcare in our country we need to be informed on what this will really mean for us going into the future.

With greater than 60% of all bankruptcies being primarily caused by medical bills, we need to look at changing something.  The even sadder fact is that over 50% of those people were fully covered by health insurance.  The answer unfortunately is not in fixing who pays for your healthcare.

Since we now know that our current healthcare system is the leading cause of death in our country, would it make sense to keep that system the same and then give everyone access to it?  Giving those not having insurance access to a broken healthcare system still doesn’t address the problem that we are the sickest industrialized country in the world.

Do people die everyday because of the lack of health coverage in our country?  I am quite sure they do.  I also know however that many more people die everyday for doing exactly what they are told by this same system because they were fully covered by insurance.

The point of all of this is that covering everyone will fix one of the problems we deal with in healthcare but it won’t even put a dent in the overall improvment of our overall healthcare system.  Just like many people particularly those with political power, we still ignore the giant elephant in the room.

The only way things are going to improve in our country is if we overhaul the entire mindset behind our medical model.  When are you taught to goto the doctor in our country?  When you have a problem, symptom or sign of disease.  We wonder why our country spends $2.4 Trillion on healthcare and its because it is always more expensive to treat a condition than it is to prevent it.  The medical community is rewarded in this country for doing heroic things to save lives.  Would it be in the best financial interest of your cardiologist to teach you what you need to do to not get heart disease or wait a while and put in a few $5,000 stents, that are not clinically proven to do much for you?  Better yet let’s wait to do open heart surgery now we are talking real money.  Studies have been done that prove you can reverse and so obviously prevent heart disease from happening.  Since it is the number cause of death by a disease, it might be a good idea to do more investigation.

If I could try to blame two things for our health crisis in America, it would be that we are taught to go to the doctor when we have symptoms only and the fact that there is no money in it for the doctors if they don’t have sick suffering individuals.  Think about it.  Your town or city has a Maximized Living Doctor on every corner in place of the Walgreens, Rite Aide or any number of other pharmacies that seem to be on every corner in my city.  People were taught the 5 Essential of good health and then we as a community took ownership of these principles.  As we improved our health what would become of the common medical doctor or pharmacy.  You guessed it they would get put out of business.  People in the business of providing true healthcare, not sick care disguised as healthcare, would flourish as our country climbed out of the basement and reached new potentials no one thought possible.

It can happen and will happen with Maximized Living leading the charge.  Our patients are our warriors and they help us in so many ways.  When people see those suffering needlessly, a simple recommendation can completely change their life.  I want to thank all of those that have helped us change our area one person at a time.  We live by a motto of “One More” because everyone can help one more person.  That one more person is someone’s father, mother, sister or brother and they deserve the right to know there is a better way.

So to answer the original question asked, “Would you vote for socialized medicine”, I would say by considering it we are wasting time ignoring the real problem at hand.  For those without health insurance, I am sure they would like it.  To be honest with you, 70% of my patients don’t use insurance in our office because even if they have “health” insurance it doesn’t cover our services.  Even if everyone is covered, if the policies stay they way they are now, they would only pay for disease care as they already do which means nothing changes.  I agree something needs to change but it is not as simple as just providing coverage for everyone.

To show our dedication to changing the health of our country, we are getting rid of any possible reason for someone to come into our office on Saturday, June 20th.  We are holding our patient appreciation day!  On that day anyone being referred to our office will receive their first 3 days in our office for FREE.  You will have all the information you will need to make an informed health decision before you have invested any money into your health.  Call our office ASAP as there is a limited number of appointments available on Saturday mornings.  720-747-5333

What does it take to regain and maintain health?

June 2nd, 2009

I recently had two conversations about regaining and  then maintaining health into the future.  The first was a person not yet a patient of ours that has been suffering needlessly over the past 10-15 years with multiple “medical conditions”.  The second was a retired couple that is beginning their 3rd year of care under the Maximized Living Model.  The biggest difference between the conversations was the confidence and certainty  the retired couple had that they were doing the right thing and feeling better as they are getting older.

The first conversation was with a middle aged female that we will call Sue.  Sue had been battling with multiple problems since she was a teenager.  The number of problems and their severity have increasing over the past 15 or so years.  When I asked her was she was currently doing to help herself, she told me she was seeing 5 specialists currently and taking 14 Rx medications.  One specialist was for her female disorders that included endometriosis, PMS and multiple difficulties with pregnancies.  This doctor had her on 3 medications to help her regulate her cycle and decrease symptoms.  She was also seeing a pain specialist for what she states is an ever changing diagnosis.  She was told she had fibromyalgia, then MS and now chronic fatigue complicated with fibromyalgia.  She had received multiple pain injections over the past few years along with multiple daily medications to help her deal with pain and fatigue.  All of these medications and specialists and still no answers.  She stated a few years ago she was sent to a mental health specialist for evaluation because  a few of her doctors were starting to wonder if the “pain was in her head”.  She was evaluated and told she was moderately depressed and given Paxil for treatment.  After about 2 months she reports having a follow-up appointment where she was told her depression was not responding to treatment so they added a second medication.  About 1 month later she reports she was under a lot of stress and she had an manic episode and felt tremendous anger towards a co-worker that she remembers got her in trouble with her boss.  So the next visit to her doctor included the addition of bipolar drug.  She told me she felt her life was totally out of control at this point.  She felt mentally unstable, had thoughts of suicide and still had the pain she was originally being treated for.   Suewas  feeling lost and hopeless.  She has not been given any reason to feel differently.  When your only option is more medication and that already hasn’t been working, where is the hope in that?  I hope and pray that she will come into our office to find out what we could do to help her.

On the other hand, my retired couple met with me to discuss recommendations for continuing care in our office.  First I want to say what a delight it is to have these people as part of our chiropractic family.  We started our conversation with me asking them how things have been going.  A question you would not typically want to ask a couple in their early 70’s, unless you had lots of time and wanted to here how terrible things are going.  To my delight the conversation started with how they used to have some pains and problems that limited them in numerous way.  Now these problems are a thing of the past.  They are more active than they were 5 years ago, have less health issues holding them back from truly enjoying life.  The have done a good job of plugging into the 5 essentials of Maximized Living we teach in our office.  Admittedly they told me they can do better than they are but are already getting great results.

So which life do you want?  The much younger lady has lost hope, deals with daily pain and has been told things such as “its in your your head” to “you will just have to learn to live with it.”  Nobody has to learn to live with it.  That would be one of the worst things someone could say.  You always have a choice to do something different.  You need to realize that when you empower yourself and take control of your health, things change.  You are the one that is responsible, not your doctor.  Doctor means teacher, to help teach people what they need to do to be healthy.  I take that definition literally.  I want to teach and lead each of my patients to better health through Maximized Living.

The choice is yours!  We are waiting with open arms to show people a better way.  The questions is, are you ready to make a commitment to your health and improve your life?

Be well,

Dr. Tim

Are you in control of your health?

April 13th, 2009

More than once a week, I have a conversation with patients or people I meet about health and genetics. People tell me they are destined for some terrible disease due to the fact that they have a family history of it. I had a patient that was convinced that she would die of breast cancer because her mom, aunt and grandmother all had it. She has been getting mammograms since she was 20 to try to “prevent” her from getting cancer or at least detect it early. I give some credit to early detection of disease but put dramatically more emphasis on preventing it.

Our medical model teaches us that genetics are something you can do nothing about. You go ahead and live the way you live and come to us when the disease starts. At that point we will be able to get you on one of our magic medications to help stabilize your condition. Hopefully as you are reading this you are starting to think that doesn’t make any sense. Why would I wait to have a disease develop to start making changes? The medical model teaches us that we are weak struggling individuals. We “need” all the tools of medicine in order to help our weak depleted bodies get “healthy.”

I have a hard time believing we are that weak. God has put the most amazing healing power right inside your own body. It is the same power that turned one sperm and one egg into 70 trillion cells that made you. If it could turn two cells into you, what makes you think it is not powerful enough to heal and maintain your body? The body doesn’t need drugs as they just cover symptoms as the disease progresses without your knowledge, it just needs Maximized Living.

In our office we teach the 5 Essentials needed to regain and maintain health into the future. I have written many blogs on the power of the chiropractic adjustment and that without a clear nervous system everything else you do for health is diminished so I am focusing the rest of the blog on the lifestyle issues that are so important.

Dr. Dean Ornish completed a trial on men with early stage prostate cancer. He randomized 93 participants into a lifestyle change group and a control group. The lifestyle group made some radical changes to their diet, they exercised 30 minutes a day 6 day a week, and they spent time doing yoga, meditation or other form of relaxation technique. By making these changes, everyone in the group saw positive changes in their cancers. They were able to map over 500 different changes in genes. The new lifestyle turned “bad genes” off while turning “good genes” on. Here you thought because you have a family history there is no good reason to take responsibility for your health and do the right thing. Sorry to burst your bubble. The decisions you make today and everyday forward are going to have a direct impact on your body’s ability to heal and function optimally.

Dr. Ornish in the early ’90s produced a study that found these same lifestyle changes not only stopped by reversed heart disease. As you can imagine he has been met with much criticism as the 400,000 bypass surgeries that cost in excess of $100 BILLION and the $15 BILLION spent on Lipitor alone would have a severe impact of the pocket books of many doctors, drug companies and hospitals.

Can you imagine that we have two studies that have shown that living the Maximized Living Lifestyle could not only stop but REVERSE the two diseases that kill the most people in our country every year and no one in the medical model is teaching it. How is this not a crime?

We just had our Maximized Living Makeover this past weekend and had the pleasure of teaching people exactly what they need to do to regain their health and maintain it for the rest of their life. It really can be that simple. If you missed the Makeover, you can still get involved. We will be starting our 6-week challenge on Thursday night with our kickoff class on how to implement the changes. Get involved now. As your health and wellness coach I tell you get started no matter where you are at and let us help you to succeed. Don’t tell me you don’t know enough or the time isn’t right, you need to do it now. I promise to be there to help you and pick you up when you fall but if you don’t try it will never change and there is no chance you will ever fall.

Call us @ 720-747-5333 to get involved in our challenge. It will change your life for ever!

Yours in health

Are You Investing In Your Health?

April 6th, 2009

I had a great conversation with a patient on Saturday. He started off by asking how much all this stock market stuff is affecting me. I told him I refuse to let the economy dictate my life. There are many people thriving right now because they chose to do the things other people were not willing to do. I then asked him what he valued the most and what he was investing in currently.

His answer surprised me. He said I am investing in my health right now! I thought, “here is a patient that attends our office events and really has a passion to improve his health.” He readily admits that had he not almost lost everything because of a health problem, he probably wouldn’t be so dedicated. My question to everyone is why do we have to lose or almost lose everything before we get our wake up call. We get comfortable, complacent and take for granted many of the things our good health provides us.

Most people realize that everything we want to be productive in our life takes time and effort to develop. If you want to be promoted at work, have a good running car, create long term financial success or just get good at anything you desire it takes time and energy to make it happen. So why is it that we suddenly feel we do not need to make that same effort to regain or maintain health? In a recent poll, when asked if they liked what the future held for them in terms of health, greater than 80% of people over 40 gave negative answers. The sad part about this is that many felt they were dealt a bad hand in a game of stud poker. Blame it on genetics or your job but few blame it on the decisions they make every day and have made in the past.

Your health is by far the best investment you can ever make to your future. A wise person once said that when we are young, we spend our health to gain wealth and as we get older we spend our wealth to regain health. At the end you are broke and dead. Every day I am healthy is worth way more than any investment I can make in the future. Some of the wealthiest people have died a horrible premature death, not due to the lack of money, but the lack of vision and investment into their health. I see a change in your future.

So how can you change? There is an old saying that “you are what you eat.” So I ask you, when your body is repairing cell damage today or normal cell replication is going on, would you want to build that cell with nutrients from your favorite fast food restaurant or from healthy unprocessed whole foods? People see every day that our children are now being affected by our poor health decisions. We have more chronic disease situations in our kids today then even the most cynical people could imagine. Diseases we never saw in kids are becoming epidemics. It all points back to one thing. We are not taking responsibility for our health, or even sadder, our children’s health. What chance do they have to be healthy when they are not being led properly by their parents?

I said earlier that I saw a change coming for you. I am challenging everyone that gets our blog to attend our Maximized Living Makeover this Saturday. The challenge is simple, I am looking for all my patients to stand up and lead their families and friends. Everyone needs a coach to be successful. Most of the truly successful people in this world always give thanks to a coach that helped keep them on track. As a health coach and leader to my patients, nothing keeps me on track better than knowing people are looking to me to help them and I need to lead by example. Do you see how this is a win-win relationship?

Call our office! Schedule for the Makeover! I don’t care if you were at one last weekend! You need to hear it again! If you are not doing things the way you know you should be, then you better be there! We are making it real easy to come. Bring 5 people with you and everyone comes for FREE and you get your book FREE. Others can buy a book at the event if they choose.

Its on Saturday April 11th from 1:30-4:30. Call the office @ 720-747-5333 for details.

See you soon,

What Principal Do You Live By?

April 2nd, 2009

One of the greatest feelings I have is when someone I am talking to has that “AH-HA” moment.  I was talking to a new patient last night when I saw a change in her physiology.  She had been told to come to our office for her daughter that was suffering from chronic earaches.  When I explained how and why chiropractic could help her daughter, she seemed interested.  I then went on to teach her about the principals of health and healing and that is when it happened.  Her eyes lit up as I continued to explain her body was a strong self-healing organism.  I ask patients all the time, “Was your body Created to be a weak suffering body or was it Created to be a thriving healthy body?”

In the commonly accepted current health care model, we are repeatedly told that our bodies are weak.  They tell you your body needs things from the outside such as drugs or surgery.  Now I would never say there is never a time when a drug or surgery is not necessary.  I recently had the unfortunate need to send a patient to a surgeon to have a fusion done in his cervical spine.  There is a concept: limitations of matter.  This states that matter can only withstand so much force before it breaks down.  Falling off the empire state building no matter how much you believe in any principal is going to lead to your demise.  However, stating that, not often does something so tragic ever happen.  Most of the time it is the accumulation of small traumas and problems that are neglected that lead to limitations of matter.

In the example of my patient that had surgery, he had a history of chronic neck problems that would come and go.  Five years before he came to see me he had an extreme pain episode, went to the doctor who gave him medications and referred him to physical therapy.  They taught him some stretches and exercises and over time with the meds and exercises the symptoms went away.  Guess what didn’t go away.  The problem!  His spine continued to degenerate over the next few years to a point of no return.  I worked with him for a few months with modest improvement but no real reduction in the radiating pain.  I referred him to an MD that ordered an MRI and it was discovered that not only did he have disc issues by the bone spurring that was happening, it was physically compressing the spinal cord.  Once I heard this I told him surgery was necessary because I know the danger of compressing the spinal cord.  If we could make changes over time, the amount of permanent damage done would lead to a early death for him.

What we have here is someone that was living by the wrong principal of health.  Not because he was being defiant or slighting anyone, he just didn’t know anything different.  He was living by our modern medical model’s rules and traditions that teach us to live our lives as we want and when things suddenly change for the worse there is a magic pill, potion, lotion or surgery that will fix things.  As I continue to hope and pray for a complete recovery from the surgery, I can only think I wish I would have met him 5 years ago.  We could have avoided this whole thing and he could be enjoying life and being the healthiest he had been in years.

The principal my family and I live by is simple.  Let’s take responsibility for our health.  Every decision I make today impacts my health tomorrow and into the future.  The foundation of our principal starts with my passion to make sure that the innate healing power in our body never has interference.  By regularly adjusting my family I am ensuring that the healing power that created them, from one sperm and one egg, into the persons they are today is living strong and well in them.  People today need to understand that they are where they are today because of the decisions they have made in the past.  Starting right now, you can decide to change your future.  We are holding our Maximized Living Makeover on April 11th.  During this 3 hour class we are going to teach you the principal of chiropractic and the 5 Essentials everyone needs to regain and maintain a long, healthy drug free life.

Whereever your health is today, what is it going to be like 5 years from now, 10 years, 25 years etc.  If you don’t like that picture you need to do something about it.  I GUARANTEE you this, if you come to our makeover and do the things we ask you to do over the next 12 months, your health will be better.  You will be able to see that picture differently of what you want to be when you’re 70.  Do you want to travel and hike, go for walks on the beach, play with your grand kids, golf or explore your creativity?  Whatever your passion and vision looks like it can be yours.  The decision is yours.

Who do you know that needs to hear this principal?  I am willing to bet if you didn’t say everyone you didn’t read this blog and you need to re-read it.  If you want to come to our Makeover and start this new chapter in your life and completely change how the story ends, call our office.  720-747-5333.  As a special for subscribing to our blog, if you bring 5 people with you to our event your admission is free and includes a book and the five people you brought come for free as well. (They can buy a book at the event if they want a resource guide)

We can change the face of health care in this country even if we have to do it one patient at a time.

Be Blessed,

Dr. Tim
