Which Path Are You On?

August 6th, 2009

When I look at the current state of health in an individual, I see two different paths people are on.  The first and by far the most common is the path of degeneration, disease and destruction.  The second is the path of health, life and vitality.  The question is which one are YOU on?

Everyday I encounter people that honestly believe the path has been chosen for them and little if anything they can do will change that for them.  I had a 42 year old new patient that from appearance looked to be in pretty good health, however after reading his intake form I was astounded by the number of problems he had.  When I took the time to ask him about his condition, he told me things had just been getting worse over the past few years.  He told me he has been through the proverbial medical ringer and their current diagnosis is that he is just not as young as he used to be.  The worst part about it, he believed them.  I told him that was insane to think that @ 42 the best of your life is over and it has been for at least a couple of years!  I asked him if he was “ok” with that?  He answered, now that you point it out that way, I guess I’m not.  How many times have you had a diagnosis and were given a reason like this?

People everyday are given this kind of news and they feel powerless.  Take someone who is having any type of health complication that they are concerned about then just tell them its their genes, they are just to old or their bodies now need help forever to function better by taking drugs.  I bet if you have ever been diagnosed with something significant you have heard one of these as the reason for your problem.  Someone on this path, if they choose to believe it, will be on the “common” path of health destruction.  People on this path die prematurely and often times end up in nursing homes where they try to keep them comfortable until they die.  If you ask the people in the nursing homes if this was how they envisioned their final years I guarantee they would say NO.  The sad reality is that a few months ago I was reading an article on a good place to invest money over then next 5 years.  It said to invest into long-term care facilities(nursing homes)  because as the baby boomers continue to age and with the declining state of health in our country, demand is going to go through the roof.  Sad isn’t it?

On the other hand, one of the joys in my life is seeing people change their paths.  Seeing people getting empowered to take back their health.  The human spirit is so powerful and when hope is given to it watch out.  People that are shown the path of health, life and vitality very seldom will ever want to go back down the other path.(Why would they?)

Can you imagine a life not dependant on medications?  Can you see yourself having joy filled times  with your family doing the things you love?  Can you see yourself with the energy of a normal 18 year old, being free to do what want without the fear of how bad you are going pay for it tomorrow?  If you can’t see this, let us show it to you!  We have multiple opportunities for you to become familiar with this new transformed vision.

Where is your health at?

July 15th, 2009

Where is your health at currently? If it is not where you want it to be, why? What things in your life are preventing you from regaining health? What is the “CAUSE” of your current situation?

Today we are going to help you learn about your body, how it functions, why and when symptoms appear and finally what is the best way to find out how your body is functioning and healing currently.

Most people admit that our bodies have an innate or inborn healing mechanism inside of it. If you get a scrape on your leg, your body knows what to do to heal it. From a simple scrape to heart disease or cancer, the body knows what to do to heal it. Thousands of times a day your body make changes, fixes problems, destroys cancer cells and heals your injuries.

Now lets talk about our healing system and symptoms. First thing, symptoms are a sign something is wrong in your body and is actually your body performing just the way it is supposed to. So many people view symptoms negatively, although I realize why, they know that it is a sign something is wrong, but the body is acting appropriately to try to fix the problem. We are obsessed in this country with getting rid of symptoms which often times either inhibits our bodies natural healing process and/or makes the problem worse due to side-effects….ie: Tylenol.

Where does all healing come from? You guessed it, your brain and spinal cord. Is it important to eat right, exercise, decrease stress in your life and limit toxic exposure? Of course it is, how ever if you severely damage your spinal chord, does it really matter what you eat? So lets talk about health and finish this conversation on symptoms.

When your are living by the 5 Essentials of Maximized Living: Detoxing the body, restoring proper nervous system function, eating right, exercising (12 minutes/week) and finally maximizing your mind with cutting edge techniques for stress reduction and time management, you are doing everything possible to have our body function at 100%

The life/health cycle of the average American

100%: Living the 5 Essentials.

90%: Body beginning to get unplugged from its life source.

80%: Disease Process is happening.

70%: Breakdown of cells, tissue, organs and organ systems.

60%: Your first symptoms start to show up and most medical

tests will finally start to show positive results. Some

people take action at this point while others will wait to see

if it goes away or they will self treat with over the counter

medications.

50%: Diagnosis occurs from the medical perspective. Treatment of

symptoms begins.

40%: Although symptoms may be getting better, the disease process

continues lowering your health level.

30%: Your treatment side-effects are harming and destroying other cells,

organs and organ systems.

20%: You get checked into the hospital for advanced life saving treatment

or surgery.

10%: Your admitted to a nursing home or some full time care facility.

0%: Is death.

As somber as this graph is, realize that you have a choice at what level you are living. The way we view health in this country is a major contributor to the declining health we see today. We are taught to wait for symptoms to show up and then seek help for the treatment of our symptoms. Even if the treatment “works” and our symptoms decline that has not stopped the disease process from progressing. For example, if you have high blood pressure that is often a sign of cardiovascular disease developing. If you take a medication that lowers your blood pressure artificially the symptom is taken care of but did it “cure” your disease or the cause of that symptom? The answer is no. That’s why heart disease is still the number 1 cause death by a disease in our country. It’s not because we don’t medicate ourselves as in the US we consume 70% of the worlds drugs and yet rank last in most health related categories.

At some point we need to take control of our health and realize the decision you make on a daily basis will determine your future in health and all aspect of your life. The only way to know how your body is functioning and healing is know how your nervous system is functioning. The best way to determine that is by having a computerized nervous system scan along with an x-ray to look at spine structure.

What does it take to regain and maintain health?

June 2nd, 2009

I recently had two conversations about regaining and  then maintaining health into the future.  The first was a person not yet a patient of ours that has been suffering needlessly over the past 10-15 years with multiple “medical conditions”.  The second was a retired couple that is beginning their 3rd year of care under the Maximized Living Model.  The biggest difference between the conversations was the confidence and certainty  the retired couple had that they were doing the right thing and feeling better as they are getting older.

The first conversation was with a middle aged female that we will call Sue.  Sue had been battling with multiple problems since she was a teenager.  The number of problems and their severity have increasing over the past 15 or so years.  When I asked her was she was currently doing to help herself, she told me she was seeing 5 specialists currently and taking 14 Rx medications.  One specialist was for her female disorders that included endometriosis, PMS and multiple difficulties with pregnancies.  This doctor had her on 3 medications to help her regulate her cycle and decrease symptoms.  She was also seeing a pain specialist for what she states is an ever changing diagnosis.  She was told she had fibromyalgia, then MS and now chronic fatigue complicated with fibromyalgia.  She had received multiple pain injections over the past few years along with multiple daily medications to help her deal with pain and fatigue.  All of these medications and specialists and still no answers.  She stated a few years ago she was sent to a mental health specialist for evaluation because  a few of her doctors were starting to wonder if the “pain was in her head”.  She was evaluated and told she was moderately depressed and given Paxil for treatment.  After about 2 months she reports having a follow-up appointment where she was told her depression was not responding to treatment so they added a second medication.  About 1 month later she reports she was under a lot of stress and she had an manic episode and felt tremendous anger towards a co-worker that she remembers got her in trouble with her boss.  So the next visit to her doctor included the addition of bipolar drug.  She told me she felt her life was totally out of control at this point.  She felt mentally unstable, had thoughts of suicide and still had the pain she was originally being treated for.   Suewas  feeling lost and hopeless.  She has not been given any reason to feel differently.  When your only option is more medication and that already hasn’t been working, where is the hope in that?  I hope and pray that she will come into our office to find out what we could do to help her.

On the other hand, my retired couple met with me to discuss recommendations for continuing care in our office.  First I want to say what a delight it is to have these people as part of our chiropractic family.  We started our conversation with me asking them how things have been going.  A question you would not typically want to ask a couple in their early 70’s, unless you had lots of time and wanted to here how terrible things are going.  To my delight the conversation started with how they used to have some pains and problems that limited them in numerous way.  Now these problems are a thing of the past.  They are more active than they were 5 years ago, have less health issues holding them back from truly enjoying life.  The have done a good job of plugging into the 5 essentials of Maximized Living we teach in our office.  Admittedly they told me they can do better than they are but are already getting great results.

So which life do you want?  The much younger lady has lost hope, deals with daily pain and has been told things such as “its in your your head” to “you will just have to learn to live with it.”  Nobody has to learn to live with it.  That would be one of the worst things someone could say.  You always have a choice to do something different.  You need to realize that when you empower yourself and take control of your health, things change.  You are the one that is responsible, not your doctor.  Doctor means teacher, to help teach people what they need to do to be healthy.  I take that definition literally.  I want to teach and lead each of my patients to better health through Maximized Living.

The choice is yours!  We are waiting with open arms to show people a better way.  The questions is, are you ready to make a commitment to your health and improve your life?

Be well,

Dr. Tim

Why did they develop disease?

April 22nd, 2009

Father and daughter in a field of grain

Have you ever asked yourself why someone who lives a healthy lifestyle, is a good person and makes healthy choices suddenly dies of a heart attack? Why does one child who receives the huge dose of toxins found in our vaccines tolerate it ok while the another develops autism? If you haven’t asked yourself that then you should.

The first reaction I hear from people is that it is genetics. My answer to them is first our genes have not suddenly changed to make us a sick suffering population. Not to mention that most of us living in the US have gene lines from other countries that have far superior health and well being. For instance if you have ancestors from France, the healthiest country to live in, and you live in the US, the most unhealthy industrialized country to live in, why are you sick? Your genes come from France. The next example I will give you is a set of identical twins. Both born on the same day, genes are identical. At 19 months both receive vaccine doses, one is cranky for the day while the other spikes a fever and goes to the hospital. The second child is then diagnosed with Autism. Like the 1 out 150 kids today diagnosed with Autism there is something missing.

If you have followed any of my previous writings, you know I often talk about that amazing healing power in our brain. The same power that took you from two single cell organisms and made a 70 trillion cell organism that lives. So why does the first twin do well while the other develops autism? Follow me for second, most people admit or realize that we live in a time where many advancements have made our lives easier and more convenient. Like most things though, it comes with a cost. This cost is being paid by our bodies with our health. Foods are grown quicker, bigger, drought resistant, disease resistant and with chemicals. For the farmer this make life simpler, easier and more profitable not bad for him. The consumer eating the product that has been brought to market unfortunately is paying the price of these “advancements” with his or her health. The food we consume today is lacking in the wonderful nutrients that are supposed to be there and it is full of chemicals that are on the “presumed to be reasonably safe for human consumption list.” Now our bodies that are craving these wonderful nutrients to grow, develop and repair damage are having to work with inferior products while also trying to detoxify from the onslaught of toxins in the food. Very challenging indeed.

The next question then becomes: our body has the ability to detoxify itself so why doesn’t it do so? The first answer comes with purely the amount of toxins making it hard for the body to keep up. With the 70,000 chemicals we are exposed to and the over 3,000 chemicals approved to be in our food, the body is under a heavy load. The second reason is one that I am very passionate about, subluxation. We know our body contains the most powerful healing ability known to man and it’s located in the brain. The spinal cord and peripheral nerves have a job of relaying this vital information to all the cells, tissues and organs of our body. We know that if we cut the nerves going to your heart, your heart will stop and the organ and you will die. How many times out of 100 do you think this would happen? You are right, 100. That is an absolute! Knowing this to be true, do you think it would be good idea to compress the spinal cord or nerves as they exist the spine? Hopefully you are saying, NO. When we compress a nerve and interfere with the that healing power, the organ at the destination of that nerve becomes diseased and is unable function and heal normally. Do you think that organ will function well to detoxify itself under these conditions? You guessed it, how could it? So back to our original question, why did one twin get autism and the other not? Both were exposed to similar toxins and nutrients but what if one of them had a more traumatic birth that subluxated his neck? Maybe one fell off the bed or changing table that caused it. However it happened, the healing force within his body is being cut off. The bodies ability to detoxify itself is diminished, his digestion and absorption of nutrients could be compromised. We take this individual that appears to be doing well and expose it to 5 different vaccine doses in one visit and the body that is struggling and fighting to regain and maintain health is overwhelmed. Neurological damage ensues and the child develops autism. Was it the vaccine that was the sole cause of the autism? NO! Did is play a crucial role in the development of the disease? YES!

The good news is whether it is the nerve going to your heart that will lead to heart disease or the child with autism, there is help. Could you eat right and exercise just like Jim Fixx, the man credited with starting the jogging revolution in the 70’s, did yet die prematurely of heart disease? Yes! How bad do you think he would have wanted to know what I am sharing with you today?

Can you imagine living in a world with less drug usage, less pain, less disease, more energy, vitality and health late in your years? It is here, you just need to act on it!

Be well,

What Principal Do You Live By?

April 2nd, 2009

One of the greatest feelings I have is when someone I am talking to has that “AH-HA” moment.  I was talking to a new patient last night when I saw a change in her physiology.  She had been told to come to our office for her daughter that was suffering from chronic earaches.  When I explained how and why chiropractic could help her daughter, she seemed interested.  I then went on to teach her about the principals of health and healing and that is when it happened.  Her eyes lit up as I continued to explain her body was a strong self-healing organism.  I ask patients all the time, “Was your body Created to be a weak suffering body or was it Created to be a thriving healthy body?”

In the commonly accepted current health care model, we are repeatedly told that our bodies are weak.  They tell you your body needs things from the outside such as drugs or surgery.  Now I would never say there is never a time when a drug or surgery is not necessary.  I recently had the unfortunate need to send a patient to a surgeon to have a fusion done in his cervical spine.  There is a concept: limitations of matter.  This states that matter can only withstand so much force before it breaks down.  Falling off the empire state building no matter how much you believe in any principal is going to lead to your demise.  However, stating that, not often does something so tragic ever happen.  Most of the time it is the accumulation of small traumas and problems that are neglected that lead to limitations of matter.

In the example of my patient that had surgery, he had a history of chronic neck problems that would come and go.  Five years before he came to see me he had an extreme pain episode, went to the doctor who gave him medications and referred him to physical therapy.  They taught him some stretches and exercises and over time with the meds and exercises the symptoms went away.  Guess what didn’t go away.  The problem!  His spine continued to degenerate over the next few years to a point of no return.  I worked with him for a few months with modest improvement but no real reduction in the radiating pain.  I referred him to an MD that ordered an MRI and it was discovered that not only did he have disc issues by the bone spurring that was happening, it was physically compressing the spinal cord.  Once I heard this I told him surgery was necessary because I know the danger of compressing the spinal cord.  If we could make changes over time, the amount of permanent damage done would lead to a early death for him.

What we have here is someone that was living by the wrong principal of health.  Not because he was being defiant or slighting anyone, he just didn’t know anything different.  He was living by our modern medical model’s rules and traditions that teach us to live our lives as we want and when things suddenly change for the worse there is a magic pill, potion, lotion or surgery that will fix things.  As I continue to hope and pray for a complete recovery from the surgery, I can only think I wish I would have met him 5 years ago.  We could have avoided this whole thing and he could be enjoying life and being the healthiest he had been in years.

The principal my family and I live by is simple.  Let’s take responsibility for our health.  Every decision I make today impacts my health tomorrow and into the future.  The foundation of our principal starts with my passion to make sure that the innate healing power in our body never has interference.  By regularly adjusting my family I am ensuring that the healing power that created them, from one sperm and one egg, into the persons they are today is living strong and well in them.  People today need to understand that they are where they are today because of the decisions they have made in the past.  Starting right now, you can decide to change your future.  We are holding our Maximized Living Makeover on April 11th.  During this 3 hour class we are going to teach you the principal of chiropractic and the 5 Essentials everyone needs to regain and maintain a long, healthy drug free life.

Whereever your health is today, what is it going to be like 5 years from now, 10 years, 25 years etc.  If you don’t like that picture you need to do something about it.  I GUARANTEE you this, if you come to our makeover and do the things we ask you to do over the next 12 months, your health will be better.  You will be able to see that picture differently of what you want to be when you’re 70.  Do you want to travel and hike, go for walks on the beach, play with your grand kids, golf or explore your creativity?  Whatever your passion and vision looks like it can be yours.  The decision is yours.

Who do you know that needs to hear this principal?  I am willing to bet if you didn’t say everyone you didn’t read this blog and you need to re-read it.  If you want to come to our Makeover and start this new chapter in your life and completely change how the story ends, call our office.  720-747-5333.  As a special for subscribing to our blog, if you bring 5 people with you to our event your admission is free and includes a book and the five people you brought come for free as well. (They can buy a book at the event if they want a resource guide)

We can change the face of health care in this country even if we have to do it one patient at a time.

Be Blessed,

Dr. Tim
