Who is responsible for YOUR health?

March 19th, 2009

A question I feel everyone actually knows the answer to but doesn’t like to practice it.  IT’S YOU!  I had a discussion with a patient last week who was so intrenched into the medical system that had given up hope that he could ever be well again.  For the past 10 years he had been going to different doctors looking for answers.  He kept getting answers but unfortunately for him they were not the right ones.  He had been given 22 different medications over that time and when he started at our office he was on 9 different drugs.  He told me that the only good news he had after all that was that this drug regimen has made him feel the best he has in the last 10 years.  Mind you he was still suffering from many ailments but the symptoms were finally being somewhat controlled.

At first, he was very skeptical to think there could be a way for him to feel even better all while reducing his dependency on medication.  He was hesitant to make any changes because he was feeling better today than he had in a while.  So I asked him,  if he continues to take those medications, does he think the condition causing his symptoms is getting better or worse?  His answer was neither, he thought things would be stable.  I asked him if he had cancer, he took medicine to keep the symptoms at bay, would his cancer progress to a point of death or would the cancer stop growing?  He told me it would continue to grow!  Exactly!

People have to understand that treating the symptoms they are experiencing is not helping to rid them of the cause of their problem.  The problem, although not producing symptoms because of the drugs,  is still progressing.  It will progress to a point of organ or system failure which for way to many people today means a premature death.

Everyday we make decisions that are going to impact our health tomorrow and into the future.  We need to think, do I want my body to make and repair cells with nutrients I consumed at my favorite fastfood resturant or do I want it to build it with fresh lean meats, fruits and vegetables?  Hopefully you are leaning to the fresh foods.

When I look at the degrading health of the American people it really concerns me.  We supposedly live in the best, cutting edge technologically advanced country in the world but yet we have more people suffering today from needless health problems.  I know it is not always easy to make the right decision, but with such huge implications, we all need to take the time to learn what is health and how to I achieve and maintain it.

I would like to close today with an invitation.  We will be holding a Maximized Living Makeover on April 11th.  This is the answer to the questions we asked above.  Once we realize a problem, we need to put into place a plan to overcome it.  With our information, leadership and guidance you can accomplish your health goals.  It is time to make a change.  When people ask what it is we do in the office, I like to simply say, “we get sick people well.”  Call our office is getting well and maintaining health is important to you.  720-747-5333 for information.

Yours in Health,

Dr. Tim
