What’s Wrong With Our Children?
My staff and I spent the weekend at a kid’s expo in downtown Denver. We had a good time talking with people and were able to really connect with some to lead them down a different path to better health and life.
I sometimes get a little overwhelmed at these events because you see these children and their parents suffering so much and most of the time needlessly. I had a specific child that at 6 years old was on multiple (6) medications. Two for asthma, two for allergies, one for ADD and one for depression. Could you imagine being clinically depressed at age 6? Did someone tell you that you couldn’t watch your favorite cartoon and that just pushed you over the edge? I hope you are thinking this is sick. To be further shocked, when I talked to the parents they were surprised that this was not “normal”. I told them unfortunately it is something that is becoming common but there is NO WAY this is normal. To my dismay, they chose to “take a card” and think about calling. I know when someone says this they are politely telling you, “I am not interested.” Now that child will grow up on who knows how many medications completely drugged out of her mind.
I had the opportunity to have a positive impact on another patient. I had a 7 year old with similar issues above minus the antidepressant. The mom was open to conversation and realized her situation should not be normal. I think what made her change her mind and schedule was a question I asked her. I asked, “What do you think the schools would be more upset with, a child who brings a weapon to school or a child who brings a bag of peanut dust and a fan?” She paused for a second, smiled and said probably the peanuts. I asked her why do you think our country is suffering so bad when it comes to healthy people including kids? She had no response. I pointed out to her that her lack of a response was one of the problems. People need to realize these things are not normal and if we continue to go down this path why do we think it is going to get better. Well for her and her son it is on Tuesday, the day they step foot into a Maximized Living office.
I often wonder if people in the US realize that the majority of the problems we are facing with our children today are very unique to our society. It is not often you hear of children taking guns to school and shooting fellow classmates and teachers in other countries. Nope, that is an American thing. There is obviously something in the water in the US that also makes our children unable to pay attention in school, the most depressed children in the world and the most obese. I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago on EQ and won’t rehash that here but encourage you to read or re-read that article which will also help explain some of the mental instabilities we are dealing with in our country.
So my final question to you. Is our gene pool just that lousy here in the US? Do our children really not have a chance at a long normal productive life or do we need to think about making some changes? I know the 2nd family I wrote about has taken the first step to completely changing their life for the better. My hope is that you will too. We all know families just like the ones I have written about today. They need your help to guide them and show them a better way. I have a hard time thinking that God has given up on us. Did he say, well those Americans they don’t deserve to live well anymore? No! Let’s take responsibility for our own health and start living the 5 Essentials of Maximized Living.
Be Blessed
